Scholarships available through the School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences

SAFS is very fortunate to have a large number of generous scholarship donors. Learn about our donors, scholarships and recipients by reading our endowment plaques.

We award most scholarship funding to meritorious students. Some funding is aimed specifically at students with need who meet the Husky Promise criteria. All students wishing to apply for scholarship support follow the same processes described below.

Our Scholarship application deadlines are as follows:

Prospective Student Recruitment Scholarships; April 10 for Summer and Autumn applicants, November 1 for Winter applicants and February 1 for Spring Applicants.

Continuing student scholarships; apply for funding on an annual basis on April 10 for the following academic year.

Collaborative summer internship program through NOAA/AFSC Students volunteer at AFSC for the summer and SAFS provides a scholarship to the student to help cover tuition/living expenses.

Travel Funds for undergraduate students presenting at conferences; applications accepted on a rolling basis, but students must be presenting at the conference (oral or poster.)

Funding available through the University of Washington

Additional funding resources available at the UW Scholarship Office

The UW Office of Merit Scholarships, Fellowships and Awards houses extensive resources for students interested in applying for funding. They offer information sessions, workshops and individual scholarship advising appointments to current UW undergraduates. Prospective applicantsmay also search their database using different filters (for example key word or class standing).

There are a few national level environmentally oriented scholarships
coordinated through the above office. If interested, you should check out
information about these opportunities below:

This is just a sampling of awards available. Please visit the Office of

General information about searching for scholarships

Students should never pay to search for scholarships. The following resources are free to use and should be quite helpful:

UW Financial Aid

All students should consider applying for UW Financial Aid, even if you do not think that you will be eligible. Some scholarships require you to file a FAFSA, even if it is determined that you are not eligible for support.

Short-Term Loan program

You may apply for a no-interest short-term loan through the Short-term Loan Program if you have a temporary cash flow problem, regardless of your eligibility for financial aid. There is a small fee. Funds are usually available within 1-4 working days and are only available to registered UW students.

Child Care Assistance Program

You may apply for Childcare Assistance if you have a child 12 or younger who needs care. The deadline is usually in May for the following academic year.
