The School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences welcomes questions from interested students!

Students currently registered at University of Washington student can declare the Aquatic and Fishery Sciences Degree at any time as long as they have a 2.0 cumulative grade point average at the University of Washington.

Declaring the major

Email the adviser at safs@uw.edu with your full name, UW student number and days and times you are available to meet.  You will meet for about 45 minutes to explore the requirements and develop a degree plan. Following this meeting, you will officially be a declared an AFS major!

  • Eligibility for departmental scholarships
  • Easy access to our SAFS Undergraduate Adviser
  • Notification of scholarships, internships and other opportunities through the email list
  • Information about upcoming classes and other academic opportunities
  • Ability to enroll in courses that are restricted to majors during priority registration.
  • Participation in the SAFS Undergraduate Student Group (SURF)

Declaring a minor

 

If the second degree is an open major, you can declare both degrees on the same form if you have met the prerequisites. 

You can declare the Marine Biology Minor at any time. You need to earn 90 SAFS credits before you can declare other minors at the UW. 

Please inform the SAFS Adviser if you would like to add a minor or another degree program.

Changing a major

We encourage you to declare the SAFS major early so that you have time to fully explore the department and courses.  If your interests change, you simply fill out another form.  We would like you to find the major that best meets your needs, and we will facilitate any changes.
