This text has developed from a series of workshops, including a major workshop held on January 10-15, 1993 at the University of Washington Marine Laboratory at Friday Harbor, Washington, U.S.A. The major focus of this book is to develop an agenda for future research opportunities in inland water ecology. The material has been separated into five chapters and two appendices. A summary of the book is provided. Topics covered include directions for freshwater research, implementation requirements, and the freshwater imperative. A reference list, a glossary of terms and acronyms, and a subject index are provided. Numerous tables and figures are included.
